FAQ

What is your style of photography?

I would describe my style as simple, pure, organic and elegant. I want your baby to be the main focus of the photos. After all, that’s what the session is all about! I do love props, but I tend to keep them neutral. I will add some color in, but it’s never too bright or bold, as I want the baby to be the main focus. Each baby that comes into the studio is unique, and because of this, I strive to personalize and create a unique shoot for each of my families. I try my best to keep the session as stress free as possible. I take time to get your child comfortable and sleepy, so I can easily position them in those dreamy, little poses!

When should I schedule my session?

I suggest maternity sessions to be taken between 34-36 weeks. At this time mom is showing enough but isn’t at the point where she feels “too big” I want you to feel comfortable & beautiful at your session!

It’s never too early to book your newborn session! I suggest booking 3-4 months prior to the arrival of your baby. Once you contact me, I will send you a welcome packet that will explain the experience in better detail, and make you feel comfortable and ready to book your session!

Milestone sessions should be booked at least a month in advance. My schedule books up rather quickly so in order to hold your spot I would call as soon as you can!

How long does a newborn session last?

It takes time to make sure that a baby is comfortable, sleepy, and ready for his or her shoot. Typically I will ask mom, dad, and baby to arrive 20 minutes prior to the session. During this time, I will have you feed the baby so that he or she has a full belly, and won’t be hungry during the session. Once baby is fed, I take a few minutes to hold the baby, and try to get them into a good sleep. Depending on the babies mood, the session can last anywhere from 2-3 hours. Closer to 3 hours if you are doing parent or sibling portraits. During the babies alone portraits, I have a separate space set up for mom and dad to relax, enjoy some coffee and treats, watch TV, use the iPad to search the web, or just take a well-needed nap! Baby and I will be right in the next room. You can hear, and are welcome to watch in! The studio space is a bit small, and with myself, baby and usually an assistant, it can get very tight rather quickly, so we do ask that you relax, and enjoy some down time while I capture the perfect photos of your little one!

What should I expect after the session?

After your session is over it will take approximately 2-3 weeks to have your photos complete. Each session takes several hours to hand pick and artistically edit each image while making sure to keep baby looking as natural as possible! Once the images are done being processed you will receive an email with a link to your password protected online gallery where you can view and share images with family & friends. At this point you can choose what collection or custom items you would like to purchase. Keep in mind these photos are watermarked and resized so that they are unable to be printed properly. Tampering with logo and or printing these images is not permitted under any circumstances.

What if I need help displaying my images?

ShayLeigh Photography believes that photography is not just taking a good picture, but rather a fine work of art. From the creativity it takes to choose props, decide on poses, and then, artistically edit each image, you will see that displaying these images in your home will bring warmth and beauty! I offer a wide variety of fine art prints, such as enlarged organic barn-wood framed prints, canvases, birth announcements, modern sweet frames and luxury albums. I am more than happy to meet with my clients in their home once they have viewed their photos, to help inspire what products to choose, and where to display their images in their home.
